Our Story
We are beach enthusiasts! For us, the idea of a dream vacation always includes beaches around the world. In fact, we love the beach so much that we live in Florida so the dream vacation can be only a drive away. The Holei Molei came to life from our own experiences and needs and we hope it can become useful and valued to all beach lovers.
The idea to bring The Holei Molei to the market started over 10 years ago. My father brought me a PVC pump from Brazil that made installing a beach umbrella an easy task. He told me the device was invented by a local fisherman so he could easily install his fishing pole.
For the past 10 years we have been using the PVC sand pump and bringing it along with us to every beach we have visited. Without fail, every time we use it someone approaches us to ask what it is and where we got it. The story we tell is always the same: “It came from Brazil and it was invented by a fisherman so he could easily install his fishing pole.”
Sometimes we must travel light to the beach due to accessibility, only bringing a beach umbrella and a beach bag, but we always make sure we have the all-important sand pump.
We then came across a news story that the Consumer Product Safety Commission stated “over 3000 people a year are treated at hospitals for beach umbrella related injuries”. It became clear to us that this product could fill a need, not only for convenience but, more importantly, for safety. We wanted to be the ones to bring this product to anyone in need of an easier and more secure way to install their beach umbrellas.
One day, after installing our umbrella, we stuck the pump in the sand and realized how securely it stayed in place. We immediately saw an opportunity to make the pump useful even after installing the umbrella. We created a tabletop that is exceptionally light weight, fits easily in a beach bag and can travel with us.
The table is easy to move and stands still even with waves coming at it. I recently used it in a resort, where chairs and umbrellas were provided, but not tables.
If only I had this convenient table when my kids were young, and I spent the days sitting with them by the water. There was never enough room on my chair for drinks, keys, glasses, and phones.
The table has also been useful when getting off the boat on shallow water. Now we have a place to lay our phones and drinks while exploring or playing on not-so-dry land.
And thus, the Holei Molei was born from the hopes that we can take the struggle out of the beach trip and get the focus back on what really matters: family and fun.
